There’s a new kind of market coming to town. Hopefully, by this summer, 609 Market in Downtown Decatur will be offering fresh meats, vegetables, breads and more!
In the news
The future opening of 609 Market in Downtown Decatur will be the first urban market concept for the area.
In addition to selling fresh veggies, meats and more, the market also plans on having in-store dining, a pizza shop and a bar. The bar will offer locally-crafted beers and wine.
The vision for 609 Market is one that ends with a blended experience. It will be an open dining-and-market concept with a focus on local, fresh, high-quality goods.
According to reports, a recent survey conducted by McCommGroup uncovered that there is a strong interest in downtown for this type of business.
Out of 1,951 survey participants, 1,449 responded they would shop daily or weekly at a downtown grocery store.
The owners of 609 Market in Downtown Decatur are currently residents of Missouri. Chefs Michael Locascio and Matthew Blair will be undertaking this new venture together.
However, only Locascio and his family will move to the area. Currently, the business partners are operating a restaurant in Missouri, but decided to look into new possibilities instead of renewing that lease.
Thanks to a small world and mutual friends the opportunity to develop and renovate the 5,000-square-foot space here presented itself to the two chefs in the Show Me State!
Now, plans are moving forward to start renovations with a projected June opening for 609 Market in downtown.
