First Solar is a solar technology company based in Arizona that is a global provider of responsibly produced eco-efficient solar modules that help fight climate change.

Among the world’s 10 largest solar manufacturers, First Solar is the only U.S.-headquartered company that is not manufacturing in China.

Mark Widmar, First Solar’s CEO, told reporters, “This new facility, along with its sister factories in Ohio, will form part of the industrial foundation that helps ensure this transition is powered by American innovation and ingenuity.”

This Alabama facility will join the other three in Ohio, including one online, which should go live the first half of 2023.

It’s expected that First Solar in Lawrence County will bring more than 700 new jobs to the area. This will make the manufacturing plant the largest job provider in the county following its completion.

According to reports, local business owner and President of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, Jerry Felks, said the addition of the plant will also greatly impact local businesses in a positive way.

Location

First Solar in Lawrence County is planning to invest $1.1 billion in a photovoltaic solar module manufacturing facility in the Mallard Fox West Industrial Complex.

It is projected to be up and running by 2025.
