About the April Walking Tours
Each weekend in April, you can enjoy a free guided walking tour through Historic Decatur.
Decatur has a rich and colorful background dating back to the early 1800s, and during the month of April, you are invited to take part in exploring that history. These guided walking tours will stroll through Old Decatur, Old Town and Albany historic districts, giving you a glimpse into our city’s heritage.
The April Walking Tours in Decatur take place each Saturday throughout the month and will each feature a different route, history lesson and tour guide.
These knowledgeable tour guides will escort the group through historic neighborhoods and landmarks, where they will share accounts of the city’s past.
Tour Schedule
The April Walking Tours in Decatur are scheduled for April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Each tour will begin at 10 a.m. and will last about one hour. Check out the date themes, guides and locations below!
- April 1: History of New Decatur/Albany, led by John Allison, Morgan County Archivist
- 133 2nd Ave. NE.
- April 8: History of Bank Street, led by local historian Phil Wirey
- 925 Bank St. NE.
- April 15: People and Places in Old Town Decatur, led by Dr. Wylheme Ragland
- 702 Sycamore St. NW.
- April 22: Historic Residential Architecture in Old Decatur, led by Dr. Caroline Swope, historic preservation specialist for the city of Decatur
- 309 Cherry St. NE.
- April 29: Decatur Garden Tour, led by the Historic Decatur Association
- 801 Jackson St. SE.
Reservations for these tours are not required, and tours will be held rain or shine.
